SSC Appoints Nick Priborsky and Nathalie Fortier New Presidents of Satellite Management Services and Engineering Services

SOLNA, Sweden (SSC PR) — Swedish Space Corporation has appointed two new Presidents of divisions to be part of the company’s executive committee. Nick Priborsky, currently the President of Engineering Services, will take over as new President of Satellite Management Services, SaMS.

Meanwhile, long-time SSC colleague Nathalie Fortier replaces Nick as the President of Engineering Services, leaving her current role as the Head of Business Development. Both will start their new positions from July 1st.

“It’s with much pleasure that I’m welcoming Nathalie and Nick to their new roles in SSC, although their faces are very much familiar to most of us at SSC from their many years within the company. Over their years with SSC, both Nick and Nathalie have gathered extensive knowledge and understanding of this company which will be of great value in their new roles,” says Stefan Gardefjord, CEO of SSC.

Swedish Space Corporation joins European megaconstellation project UN:IO

SOLNA, Sweden (SSC PR) — Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) joins European space consortium UN:IO targeted at creating an independent European constellation of satellites for commercial and institutional communication channels. As a vital part of the infrastructure, SSC adds its significant heritage from satellite communications services as well as one of the world’s leading ground station networks. The mega constellation is set to be fully operational by 2025, supported by the European Commission who picked UN:IO out of the 10 consortia that applied.

The European Commission will support the UN:IO consortium with 1.4 MEUR for the preparations of critical infrastructure that will ensure secure broadband connectivity for mass communication and large data quantities.

SSC Invests to Finalize Spaceport Esrange – First Satellite to be Launched in 2022

SOLNA, Sweden (SSC PR) — Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) have signed a EUR 12 million [US $13.9 million] loan agreement for the finalization of a new spaceport at Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, northern Sweden. The 12-year maturity loan will finance the investments to unlock the use of reusable rockets and the ability to launch small satellites into orbit as early as 2022, making Esrange the first major orbital launch site in the EU.

Jukkasjärvi, Sweden (Swedish Space Corp. PR) — The fire that broke out yesterday morning at Esrange during a scheduled static firing test of a solid rocket motor, partially damaged the infrastructure used for launching sounding rockets. The remaining operations at Esrange, which is one of the world’s most versatile space bases, are not affected by the incident.

Esrange Space Center is one of the world’s most versatile space bases, including a number of functions that are important to our society. The base is currently being expanded with new capability for further utilization of space.

Swedish Space Corporation Strengthens Presence in Asia-Pacific with SSC Space Thailand

SOLAN, Swden (SSC PR) — Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) announced today the formation of SSC Space Thailand, a subsidiary targeted at the Asian-Pacific market, further expanding the company’s presence in the region. The announcement marks further investment in the Asian-Pacific region, adding to SSC’s already strong presence in Australia and Thailand, including ground station facilities in both countries.

“SSC has been supporting Thai space activities for more than a decade, for example through satellite-to-ground communications for the THEOS-1 satellite program. We are now looking forward to deepening this relationship further, expanding across leading space markets in South-East Asia”, said SSC CEO, Stefan Gardefjord.

SSC & Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands to Collaborate in Optical Communication

SOLNA, Sweden (SSC PR) — Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) and Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands (Airbus DS NL) have signed an MOU for collaborative activities regarding ground equipment for space-to-ground optical communication. The agreement will accelerate the development of commercially viable optical ground stations that will be offered by Airbus DS NL and used by SSC in delivering ground network services.

Swedish Space Corporation Invests in GlobalTrust Data Analytics Company

SOLNA, Sweden (SSC PR) — SSC is pleased to announce investment in a new start-up data analytics business with offices in the UK and Sweden to address some of the most crucial environmental and social issues of the time. GlobalTrust will focus on supporting public policy and corporate social responsibility imperatives that are aligned with societies’ expectations and working towards a better and more sustainable planet.

This initiative is being led by SSC and is supported by the UK’s Satellite Applications Catapult – a government established not-for-profit company with its core mandate focused on promoting and enabling industrial growth in the space sector.

DLR, Swedish Space Corp to Cooperate on Rocket Engine Tests
