Mojave Spaceport Gets High-Speed Fiber Internet Services

Mojave_Air_and_Space_Port_logoThe Mojave Air and Space Port and its tenants now have access to high-speed, fiber-optic Internet and phone services, which officials see as a big draw for companies to locate to the desert test facility.

Race Communications completed hooking up the spaceport to its Los Angeles data center last month, CEO Raul Alcaraz told the facility’s Board of Directors on Tuesday. The airport’s administration building and four companies already have service, and other tenants can now sign up as well, he added.

Mojave Spaceport Tenants to Get Broadband Services, Utilities Extended to Test Area

Tenants at the Mojave Air and Space Port will have access to broadband fiber services beginning in December. In a related move, officials are moving forward with a plan to extend broadband, power and water utilities to the test area on the north side of the spaceport, where there are currently no services.

Jim Miller, CEO of High Desert Wireless Broadband Communications (HDWBC), told the East Kern Airport District (EKAD) Board of Directors on Tuesday that the airport’s broadband network has been connected to a main fiber line running out from Los Angeles. Several clients have been provided service, and HDWBC and its partner, Race Communications, are using them for a 30-day testing period.

Mojave Space Port Moves Ahead with Extensive Improvements Program

The Mojave Air and Space Port is making a series of infrastructure improvements designed to enhance services for existing tenants and users and to lure new companies to the High Desert test center.

The projects include improvements to two of the airport’s three runways, the extension of utilities to new areas, the installation of high-speed Internet services, and the development of a large building for meetings and special events.
