Star Trek Writer, NASA Scientist, and Television Producer Andre Bormanis Named to the Orbital Assembly Corporation Advisory Board

ROCKLIN, CA (Orbital Assembly Corporation PR) — Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC), the only company advancing the development and operation of a commercially viable, space-based business park with gravity, has named Andre Bormanis, scientist, Star Trek TV series writer and television producer to its advisory board.

Bormanis has had a lifelong focus on space and science including as a writer, technical consultant, and producer on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. 

He is also co-author, with Dr. Logsdon, of “Emerging Policy Issues for Long-Term Human Space Exploration: Background Paper” and co-editor, also with John Logsdon, of Conference Proceedings: Emerging Policy Issues for Long-Term Human Space Exploration, by the Space Policy Institute. Bormanis has also written numerous articles on astronomy and space science.

Orbital Assembly Relocates to Huntsville, to Receive a $3 Million Incentive Package for the First Gravity-Enabled Space Structures

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 23, 2022 (OAC PR) — Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC), the only company advancing the development and operation of the first commercially viable, space-based business park with gravity, is relocating its headquarters and facilities from Rocklin, California to Huntsville, Alabama, home of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

The company negotiated $3 million worth of incentives from state and local governments to develop the Gravity Ring, which is also an essential structural component of its future Pioneer and Voyager space parks.

NSF Awards Grant to Emerging Futures to Develop Lunar Landing Pad Material

Portland, Ore., March 10, 2022 (Emerging Futures PR) — Emerging Futures, LLC, a research and analysis consultancy focused on climate change mitigation and the commercial expansion of space, has been awarded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) 2021-2022 Phase I Grant from the National Science Foundation.

This Grant enables Emerging Futures to continue developing its PolyBrick™ polymer-regolith composite lunar landing pad concept. This innovative, sustainable, and scalable material will be constructed entirely from lunar materials.

NASA Rejected Relativity Space’s Plan for Commercial LEO Space Station

Relativity Space unsuccessfully applied for NASA funding to begin work on a commercial space station under the space agency’s Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) program, according to a newly released government document.

The space agency awarded $415.6 million for space station proposals from Blue Origin, Nanoracks and Northrop Grumman. The commercial stations are designed to provide the United States with uninterrupted access to Earth orbit when the International Space Station is retired in 2030.

NASA Rejected Commercial Space Station Proposals from Maverick Space, Orbital Assembly and ThinkOrbital

NASA rejected space station development proposals from Maverick Space Systems, Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC) and ThinkOrbital, according to a newly released document.

The three companies were competing for funding under the space agency’s Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) program. The effort is focused on the development of private commercial space stations that will provide the the United States with uninterrupted access to Earth orbit when the International Space Station (ISS) is retired in 2030.

NASA awarded $415.6 million for space station proposals from Blue Origin, Nanoracks and Northrop Grumman under the CLD program. The space agency also rejected proposals from SpaceX and Relativity Space.
