Ericsson, Qualcomm and Thales to Take 5G into Space

The activity follows approval for satellite-driven 5G non-terrestrial networks (5G NTNs) from the 3GPP global telecommunications standards’ body

5G non-terrestrial networks could help to provide complete global 5G coverage – including areas currently not served by terrestrial networks

This initial work in France would be to test and validate 5G NTN to gain leverage from the satellite and ICT ecosystem  

STOCKHOLM (Ericsson PR) — Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), French aerospace company Thales (Euronext Paris: HO), and wireless technology innovator Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM) are planning to take 5G out of this world and across a network of Earth-orbiting satellites.

NewSpace Networks Founders Join SEMPRE Executive team

WASHINGTON (SEMPRE.ai PR) — SEMPRE.ai, the technology company created to secure America’s critical infrastructure, today announced the acquisition of NewSpace Networks to further safeguard and expand the availability of terrestrial, maritime, airborne and space-based wireless communications. Integration of the two companies’ technologies has been underway for more than a year, with the first commercial products having been tested domestically with the U.S. Department of Defense. By combining SEMPRE’s heterogeneous edge compute, hardware hardening expertise and 5G core development with NewSpace Networks software experience, virtualization and networking knowledge the company has combined these technologies into a complete survivable, micro-edge datacenter solution. The specific terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed.

China Launches Seven Satellites

China successfully launched six Galaxy Aerospace Yinhe Hantian-2 communications satellites to test technology for a large Internet constellation as well as a remote sensing satellite on Saturday. Thales Alenia Space and Partners Awarded Two Contracts for Laser-communication Related to ESA’s Hydron

OHB, LuxSpace and OQ Technology Sign MOU to Explore Collaboration for IoT Services

LUXEMBOURG, 18 Jan 2022 (OHB SE PR) – OHB SE (OHB), one of Europe’s leading space companies, its subsidiary LuxSpace, a provider of space systems, applications and services, and OQ Technology (OQ), a global satellite operator, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore opportunities in the Internet-of-Things (IoT) service sector.

The cooperation between LuxSpace, OHB and OQ will include satellite-based IoT upstream and downstream activities to enhance the portfolio of services available to customers in different markets, including, but not limited to, energy, agriculture, defence and the green economy.
