Kayhan Space along with Astroscale U.S. and UT-Austin awarded Phase 1 STTR under the SpaceWERX Orbital Prime Program

LAFAYETTE, Colo., September 28, 2022 (Kayhan Space PR) – With the space economy and critical defense initiatives dependent on safe rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO), Kayhan Space, along with partners Astroscale U.S. and the University of Texas at Austin, today announced it has won a U.S. Space Force award to develop an intelligent platform that autonomously enables spacecraft to safely engage with on-orbit support vehicles for services such as refueling, maintenance, debris removal and national security.

NRO Announces Commercial Radio Frequency Study Contract Awards

CHANTILLY, Va. (NRO PR) – The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) today announced the award of six study contracts for commercial radio frequency (RF) remote sensing. Companies receiving awards under NRO’s Strategic Commercial Enhancement’s (SCE) Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) Framework include Aurora Insight, HawkEye 360, Kleos Space, PredaSAR, Spire Global, and Umbra Lab.

“Since the 2019 award of an integration study contract for commercial RF, we’ve seen increasing demand for this data source from across the user community,” said Dr. Chris Scolese, director of the NRO. “Today’s awards are another great example of NRO’s efforts to innovate on all fronts, as we continue to work with our partners in government and the commercial sector to find new ways to build capability, agility, capacity, speed, and resilience into everything we do.”

Thales Alenia Space Signs Contract with ArianeGroup to Begin Production of Ariane 6 Range Safeguard System

CANNES, France, September 27, 2022 (Thales Alenia Space PR) — Thales Alenia Space, the joint company between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), has signed a contract with ArianeGroup to produce the range safeguard system for the new Ariane 6 launch vehicle. Europe’s new launcher will combine proven and innovative solutions to meet changing market requirements, while maintaining the Ariane family’s track record of reliability. Thales Alenia Space in Belgium has contributed to this family since the outset.

ISRO Tests 30 kN Hybrid Motor

MAHENDRAGIRI, India (ISRO PR) — Today, VSSC/ISRO successfully tested a hybrid motor at ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri, supported by Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC/ISRO). The motor used Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) as fuel and liquid oxygen (LOX) as the oxidizer. ClearSpace Secures a Major UK contract to Remove Derelict Statellites

Following the successful completion of a feasibility study of the CLEAR mission to remove two UK-registered derelict objects from low Earth orbit, a consortium led by ClearSpace has been awarded a follow-up contract by the UK Space Agency to perform the preliminary design of the mission. The company’s solution responds to the pressing need to preserve the increasingly congested space environment and is a stepping stone towards other services in orbit. 

LONDON, 26 September 2022 (ClearSpace PR) — In October 2021, the UK Space Agency (UKSA) commissioned the ClearSpace UK-based subsidiary to perform a feasibility study for a mission to remove at least two UK-registered derelict objects from low Earth orbit (LEO). In this study, the team explored different mission scenarios, defined the mission and system requirements and selected the technologies necessary for the implementation of the mission. In March 2022, ClearSpace and its partners successfully completed this first study phase.
