Long March 2C Launches 3 Surveillance Satellites, Civilian Data Relay Spacecraft

A Long March 2C booster launched three Yaogan 30-07 surveillance satellites and a commercial data relay satellite on Friday. The launch was conducted from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center at 2:11 a.m. local time. The three Yaogan 30-07 satellites will be primarily used for electromagnetic environment detection. NASA Invites Public, Media to Watch Asteroid Mission Begin Return to Earth

GREENBELT, Md. (NASA PR) — NASA invites the public and the media to watch its first asteroid sample return mission begin a two-year cruise home at 4 p.m. EDT Monday, May 10, on NASA Televisionthe NASA app, and the agency’s website. The public can follow along on the NASA Solar System InstagramTwitter, and Facebook  accounts using #ToBennuAndBack, and ask questions about the mission by commenting on an Instagram story between 12 p.m. EDT, May 10 and 12 p.m. EDT, May 11. Answers will post to NASA Solar System’s Instagram stories on May 11.

Boeing’s Starliner System Completes Full Space Station Mission Simulation

HOUSTON (NASA PR) — NASA and Boeing recently completed an integrated mission dress rehearsal of Starliner’s uncrewed Orbital Flight Test-2 (OFT-2) mission to the International Space Station for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. The campaign conducted largely inside Boeing’s Houston-based Avionics and Software Integration Lab (ASIL) culminated in a five-day end-to-end mission simulation known as the ASIL Mission Rehearsal, or AMR.

WRIGHT BROTHERS FIELD, Mars (NASA PR) — NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter completed its fifth flight on the Red Planet today with its first one-way journey from Wright Brothers Field to an airfield 423 feet (129 meters) to the south. After arrival above its new airfield, Ingenuity climbed to an altitude record of 33 feet (10 meters) and captured high-resolution color images of its new neighborhood before touching down.

Avio Purchases 10 Additional Ukrainian Engines for Vega Launcher’s Upper Stage

DNIPRO, Ukraine (Yuzhnoye PR) — Yuzhnoye Design Office and the Italian company Avio have reached an agreement on the additional purchase of 10 Ukrainian-made engines for the Vega launch vehicle for a total of almost 6 million euros [$7.2 million]. 

The Italian side reaffirmed its readiness to expand cooperation on April 28. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba welcomed the agreement reached by the joint efforts of representatives of the Ukrainian rocket and space industry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Virgin Orbit is planning its third launch of small satellites for sometime in June. The Cosmic Girl Boeing 747 will take off from the Mojave Air and Space Port in California and drop the LauncherOne booster over the Pacific Ocean.
