Redwire Announces Supplier Agreement with Terran Orbital to Support Satellite Manufacturing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The LEOPARD (Low Earth Orbit Pursuit for Active Debris Removal) study will define concepts for de-orbiting 2 uncooperative UK space assets from low earth orbit

GUILDFORD, UK (Surrey Satellite PR) — Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) has been selected to lead a UK Space Agency study to define the mission requirements for a complex mission to de-orbit two non-operational space debris targets. SSTL is a world-leader in the manufacture and in-orbit operation of small satellites, and has valuable experience in two previous Active Debris Removal (ADR) demonstration missions; RemoveDEBRIS, which concluded a series of debris retrieval demonstrations in January 2019, and Astroscale’s 2021 ELSA-d mission for which SSTL supplied the Client “target” satellite.

ispace Europe, ArianeGroup and ESA to Assess Commercial Partnership for Lunar Transportation Services

LUXEMBOURG, December 10 (ispace PR) – ispace Europe (ispace EU), the European subsidiary of ispace, inc., and ArianeGroup have been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to participate in a pilot phase aiming to establish commercial partnerships in Europe for lunar transportation and exploration. ESA Director General, Josef Aschbacher, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Wednesday, November 24, with ispace EU and ArianeGroup. This marks the official start of the pilot phase.

During this phase, the ispace EU-ArianeGroup partnership will undertake business, technical and socio-economic evaluations of their lunar transportation service, which will ultimately be presented to an ESA evaluation panel; the companies are seeking a decision from ESA by Summer 2022. If endorsed by the Panel and further confirmed by ESA Member States, ispace EU and ArianeGroup could become a vetted candidate to transport ESA payloads to the Moon.

MEXICO CITY (Mexican Government PR) — Mexico has joined the NASA-led Artemis Program for space exploration, which aims to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon.

The signing of the Artemis Accords was announced today at an event led by Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard and attended by the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jorge Arganis Díaz-Leal. The initiative received the support of Mexican legislators and the National Conference of Governors (Conago), and was welcomed by the United States Government.

PARIS (ESA PR) — ESA has signed a contract with GomSpace to build the Scout CubeMAP mission. Embracing the concept of New Space, CubeMAP is a trio of nanosatellites to help quantify atmospheric processes in the upper atmosphere and how they impact our climate. The constellation will measure water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, nitrous oxide and aerosols – all of which play a key role in the greenhouse effect and climate change.

SpaceFounders Demo Days Held Successfully in Berlin and Paris

PARIS (CNES PR) — The acceleration program for European space start-ups SpaceFounders has entered its final “FUND” phase, that of seeking funding, a phase which will last over time, probably until 2022, but which is looming and already very promising. The Demo Days, which were held successively, in Berlin on Tuesday, 23 November, and in Paris on Thursday, 25 November, were a real success. They enabled privileged meetings with investors, partners or large institutional clients. 

The 10 successful start-ups of the program were able to present their strategy and their ambition to become the world champions of the New Space of tomorrow, in front of more than 40 private investors, venture capital funds, European family offices and business angels.

FAA Decides Bezos, Branson and Shatner Are Astronauts After All
  • Everyone who exceeds 50 miles by Dec. 31 will receive commercial astronaut wing even if they were just passengers
  • Nobody after that will even if they pilot a ship
  • Agency reverses earlier decision to award wings only to those essential to flight operations/success
  • FAA says this is what was intended all along

WASHINGTON (FAA PR) – With the advent of the commercial space tourism era, starting in 2022, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will now recognize individuals who reach space on its website instead of issuing Commercial Space Astronaut Wings. Any individual who is on an FAA-licensed or permitted launch and reaches 50 statute miles above the surface of the Earth will be listed on the site.
