News media are invited to join students who recently arrived at NASA’s Ames Research Center for the 2009 International Space University Space Studies Program as they interact with NASA’s Expedition 20 astronauts aboard the International Space Station. The live educational downlink event will be held from 10:10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Building 3 on the NASA Research Park.

Nelson inserts three NASA earmarks into spending bill

Three projects on Florida’s Space Coast would get $1.6 million in funding next year as part of an overall $18.7 billion budget for NASA approved today by a Senate spending committee.

The pet projects, or earmarks, were inserted by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Florida, and would help build a testing facility and launch pad in Brevard County, as well as steer $100,000 toward helping local aerospace businesses.

Singularity University to Launch at NASA Ames; ePlanet Ventures Becomes Corporate Sponsor

SINGULARITY UNIVERSITY PRESS RELEASE

Singularity University (SU) — the new academic institution with the goal of preparing the next generation of leaders to address “humanity’s grand challenges” — today announced the selection of 40 students to represent the inaugural class for the Graduate Summer Program (GSP). Singularity University narrowed the final 40 students from a pool of more than 1,200 candidate applications around the globe. The summer program begins on June 29, 2009, based at its campus on the NASA Ames Research Park.

SU also announced that leading Silicon Valley venture capital firm, ePlanet Ventures, joins SU as the newest Corporate Founder to support the institution.
