The Texas congressional delegation is urging U.S. President Barack Obama to redirect $3 billion in unspent stimulus money to NASA, a cash infusion the group said is needed to support a robust human spaceflight program and save jobs in Texas and around the country.

Boeing, Energia to Build Common Docking System

BOEING PRESS RELEASE

The Boeing Company and Russian aerospace company RSC-Energia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Moscow on Oct. 2 to work together on a future common docking system for advanced space exploration vehicles.

The two companies will complement each other’s extensive knowledge in International Space Station (ISS) design, assembly and operation to produce an international standard for docking mechanisms.

Commercial Space’s To-Do List

The Commercial Spaceflight Federation issued a press release marking the fifth anniversary of the Ansari X Prize being claimed and reviewing the progress in commercial space since that day:

“Since the X PRIZE flights occurred in 2004, we’ve seen a drumbeat of steady growth in the commercial spaceflight industry: the creation of NASA’s Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program, hundreds of deposits put down for suborbital flights, the winning of NASA’s Lunar Lander Challenge prize money, over $1.2 billion of investment poured into this new industry, and now the Augustine Committee’s endorsement of commercial spaceflight,” stated John Gedmark, Executive Director of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation. “We are eagerly looking forward to many more exciting accomplishments to come.”

Those are significant achievements. And the exciting accomplishments to come? I can think of a few that would be nice…

SpaceX Completes Acceptance Testing on Falcon 9 Stages

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) announces the successful completion of acceptance testing of both the Falcon 9 first and second stages in preparation for the first flight of Falcon 9. Acceptance testing took place at SpaceX’s Texas Test Site, a 300-acre structural and propulsion testing facility, located just outside of Waco, Texas.
