CSF President Alexander Appointed to NASA Advisory Council

CSF PRESS RELEASE

Bretton Alexander, President of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, has been appointed by NASA Administrator Charles Bolden to the NASA Advisory Council, a federally chartered body of experts that provides advice and counsel directly to the NASA Administrator. Additionally, Alexander has been selected to chair the newly formed Commercial Space Committee of the NASA Advisory Council.

NASA Revamps Advisory Council Committees

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden held his first meeting with the restructured NASA Advisory Council recently at the agency’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif. Bolden has added four new committees to the council in key areas of importance to the agency’s future: Commercial Space, Education and Public Outreach, Information Technology Infrastructure, and Technology Innovation.

P.S. Veeraraghavan, a rocket technologist, took over on Saturday as Director, Vikram Sarabahi Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, from K. Radhakrishnan who has been appointed Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Mr. Veeraraghavan was till now Director, ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU), Thiruvananthapuram.

Unreasonable Rocket Ends Quest for Lunar Lander Prize

Reports out of Cantil indicate that Unreasonable Rocket has ended its quest to win the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge. During a test flight using a crane and tether, Unreasonable’s Silver Ball lander oscillated, broke the tether, and fell back onto the launch pad on its side. A leg punctured the fuel tank, damaging the vehicle and preventing another flight attempt on the last day of the competition.

Orbital, Paragon Vying for NASA Communication Human Spaceflight Funds

NASA funding may land in Arizona: Orbital, Paragon vying for slice of $50 million

Orbital Sciences Corp. and Paragon Space Development Corp. are vying for a piece of the $50 million in research funding NASA is expected to award businesses this month as part of the initiative.

The companies design and develop space-related technology at facilities in Arizona, and other local technology firms could benefit if either company secures funding.
