California Space Authority Visits France to Promote Cooperation

CSA PRESS RELEASE

The California Space Authority (CSA) completed its mission to the Toulouse Space Show this week after an impressive agenda of speaking engagements and business development opportunities. Building upon the Space Enterprise Networking Agreement between the CSA and the French Aerospace Valley, CSA’s mission was to enhance business relationships and promote partnerships with California space enterprise members.

New Spaceport America Contracts Awarded

NMSA PRESS RELEASE

The New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA) has selected a contractor to provide construction services for the fences and gates at Spaceport America. After reviewing proposals from four contractors, the NMSA Board of Directors awarded the contract to Apache Construction Company, doing business as Valley Fence Company of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Russia Moves Forward With New Spaceport in the Far East

Representatives of Roscosmos, companies of the industry, Russian Construction Ministry and other authorities and companies arrived at Arum region to take part in the public hearing in the city of Uglegorsk, which had been picked as a place for the future Russian space port Vostochny.

The hearing will cover several major topics. Among them, there are: development of the Vostochny support infrastructure, environmental impact of the rocket launches, land usage, etc. The hearing is to take place tomorrow.

Garver Returns From European Trip Where Co-operation Expanded

NASA PRESS RELEASE

NASA Deputy Administrator Lori Garver returned June 15 from a week-long, three-city trip to Europe that included addressing the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and signing a cooperative agreement to extend the mission of an Earth science satellite.

Garver’s visit also included discussions with key European space agency heads and senior-level officials in the German and French governments. The focus of her travel was to explain the administration’s new plans for space exploration and make clear that expanded international collaboration will be a cornerstone of NASA’s future activities.

“NASA has a long history of international cooperation,” Garver said. “Indeed, international cooperation was envisioned as a key element in the U.S. legislation that formally established NASA. We intend to broaden and deepen those relationships as we seek to implement the president’s new U.S. space exploration enterprise.”

Bigelow “Appalled” By Lack of Confidence in Commercial Crew Plan

Bigelow Aerospace CEO Robert Bigelow has some strong words for critics of the Obama Administration’s plan to have commercial operators handle human spaceflight into low Earth orbit. In a press release announcing his company’s decision to join an industry lobby group, Bigelow said critics were “pernicious” arguments to oppose the plan.

We are becoming a member of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation at this time to join with like-minded organizations, who want to see America be able to compete again in the global space launch marketplace, and push back against the pernicious misconceptions that are being perpetuated to harm the Administration’s commercial crew initiative.”
