SpaceX CRS-25 to Launch Stem Cells From Cedars-Sinai Scientists to Space

Cedars-Sinai Scientists Will Test Whether it is Possible to Produce Large Batches of Stem Cells in a Low Gravity Environment

LOS ANGELES (Cedars-Sinai PR) — Cedars-Sinai and Space Tango are launching pilot-scale systems for the in-space production of stem cells to see if they can elevate the next generation of stem cell and gene therapies by harnessing the near-zero gravity conditions of spaceflight .Cedars-Sinai SpaceX CRS-25 Mission Patch. This mission, funded by a NASA Research Announcement award, will help researchers explore the effects of microgravity on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The work can potentially lead to better ways to manufacture large numbers of cells in the absence of gravity.

Microgravity has become of great interest to stem cell scientists due to unique properties it grants to biological tissues and processes that could potentially help mass-produce cells or other products in a way that is not possible to do on Earth.

Roscosmos CEO Rogozin Threatens Bulgaria with Nuclear Attack

Sounding more unhinged by the day, Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin threatened Bulgaria with a nuclear strike as the Russian invasion of Ukraine escalated. Novinite reports:

“This is what Sarmat is good for. It will not ask for consent for the flight from the cowardly Bulgarians, the vicious Romanians and the Montenegrins who betrayed our common history. Like the other various nations like the Swedes.”

This was written on Twitter by the former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and CEO of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin on the occasion of Bulgaria’s refusal to provide an air corridor for a government plane to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The RS-28 Sarmat, better known as “Satan II”, is a super-heavy intercontinental ballistic missile for carrying nuclear warheads. Its range is 18,000 kilometers.

This is the first direct threat made by the Russian authorities to Bulgaria since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

Plan Proposed to Invest NIS 600 Million to Boost Space Industry in Israel

The new program also includes the establishment of a satellite for research purposes, increasing the number of researchers and high school graduates working in the field.

TEL AVIV (Israel Space Agency PR) — Israel’s strategic plan for space development is unveiled for the first time: an investment of NIS 600 million [USD $179.96 million] over a five-year period, with the aim of doubling the number of local space companies and quadrupling the volume of annual sales in the field. The goals of the program are also, among other things, to increase the number of high school graduates who have dealt in a tangible way in the field as well as the number of space researchers in academia.

The strategic plan for the advancement of the field of civil space in Israel was presented by the Israel Space Agency to the ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology Orit Farkash-Hacohen. This follows her request to map in detail the space of opportunity as well as the vision, goals and actions required to take advantage of these opportunities. In the background of the program is the dramatic change that has taken place in the field of space in the world in recent years, with the opening of space to entrepreneurs and private investors and its transformation into a growing and developing market.
