CSF Elects Witt as New Chairman

Washington, D.C. (CSF PR) The Commercial Spaceflight Federation has elected Stuart O. Witt as the next Chairman. Witt was nominated and elected by CSF’s Executive Board of Directors, whose members span the industry. Witt succeeds Eric Anderson, who has completed his appointed term. Anderson will continue to serve as a CSF Officer and member of the Board.

Witt, one of CSF’s founders, is the CEO of the Mojave Air & Space Port, which was designated as the nation’s first inland spaceport and is the birthplace of our nation’s commercial space endeavors. Mojave is home to Scaled Composite’s SpaceShipOne, which won the $10M Ansari XPRIZE in 2004.

Video: Family Guy Creator Seth MacFarlane Discusses New Cosmos TV Series

Seth MacFarlane speaking at Planetfest 2012 with Ann Druyan, the widow of Carl Sagan. The talk was held hours before NASA’s Curiosity rover landed on Mars. Seth MacFarlane is the creator of Family Guy, voice actor, director and writing. He is co-producing the new Cosmos series to be broadcast on the Fox TV network in 2014.

CASIS, Merck in Deal to Conduct Therapeutic Research on ISS

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FL., September 10, 2012 (CASIS PR) – The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) – manager of the International Space Station (ISS) U.S. National Laboratory – today announced that it is collaborating with global healthcare company Merck to conduct cutting-edge therapeutic research on board the ISS in 2013.

The ISS-based research will focus on therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (MABs), which are engineered proteins designed to bind to targets that cause disease, potentially allowing greater specificity than conventional therapies with fewer side effects.

Obama Talks Space in Florida

President Barack Obama made a campaign swing through Florida over the weekend. Below are excerpts from a White House transcript of remarks he made at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne relating to space, science and technology funding, and competitiveness.

THE PRESIDENT: Here on the Space Coast, we started a new era of American exploration that is creating good jobs right here in this county. (Applause.) We’ve begun an ambitious new direction for NASA by laying the groundwork for 21st century space flight and innovation. And just last month, we witnessed an incredible achievement that speaks to the nation’s sense of wonder and our can-do spirit — the United States of America landing Curiosity on Mars. (Applause.)

Space Florida Partners With New Insurance Agency

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6, 2012 (Assure Space PR) — Assure Space, LLC, a new space insurance agency for satellite risks, is excited to partner with Auster Capital Partners (“ACP”) and Space Florida for the provision of launch and in-orbit insurance to satellite operators worldwide.
