NASA to Announce Candidate Landing Regions for Artemis III Moon Mission
NASA Program Update
NASA will hold a media teleconference at 2 p.m. EDT Friday, Aug. 19, to announce regions near the lunar South Pole the agency has identified as potential areas for astronauts to land as part of the Artemis III mission, targeted for 2025. This will be the first time astronauts will set foot on the Moon since NASA’s Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

Within each region, there are several potential landing sites. Each of the selected regions, from which specific landing sites could be selected, is of scientific interest and was evaluated based on terrain, communications, and lighting conditions, as well as ability to meet science objectives. NASA will engage with the broader science community in the coming months to discuss the merits of each region.
Teleconference participants include:
- Mark Kirasich, deputy associate administrator for the Artemis Campaign Development Division, NASA Headquarters
- Jacob Bleacher, chief exploration scientist, NASA Headquarters
- Sarah Noble, Artemis lunar science lead, Planetary Science Division, NASA Headquarters
- Prasun Desai, deputy associate administrator for the Space Technology Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters
Through Artemis missions, NASA will land the first woman and the first person of color on the Moon, paving the way for a long-term lunar presence and serving as a steppingstone to send astronauts to Mars. NASA selected SpaceX’s Starship to provide the human landing system to deliver crew from lunar orbit to the surface of the Moon during Artemis III, which is the first Artemis mission to involve a crewed lunar landing.

Mandatory virtue-signalling by government entities is the order of the day. It’s a side-effect of the political realignment the country is going through at the moment. It’s the woke equivalent of a dog peeing on a fire hydrant – a way of marking territory. By the time said political realignment has gone to completion this will all quickly seem quaint.
Considering how deep and wide that peculiar racialist-socialist rot has spread, I’m not nearly so sanguine.
Corrupt ideas that comfortably intersect with abuses of power are not only dangerous, they can be as persistent and resistant as anthrax.
What began as a mere throwaway line from Project Artemis managers to appease a new racialist/intersectional fashion, has been snatched up by the allies of those fascist-fashions and made the leading theme of Project Artemis. The institutional rot is Biden administration wide, being imposed from the top down, poisoning not just NASA but also the US military, and the Deep-State Federal law-enforcement and intelligence “communities”.
I had yearly sexual harassment assault response and prevention training in the military. And out of the 8 or 10 I attended while I was in, in all except one or two, there was always one guy that had to stand up and angrily inform everyone that “sometimes it is the females fault.” That is not really what they were saying. Most of us understood that anyway. When Trumpists get upset about this or that and blather their coded language, most people know what they are really saying. No different.
When people get upset about a female and person of color landing on the Moon….they are self-identifying. Believe it.

No one is upset about a woman and a person of color landing on the Moon. It’s the ostentatious virtue-signalling of including this bit of woke catechism in every official NASA statement about anything having to do with Artemis that gets tedious. As Artemis 3 will almost certainly slip rightward from its now-notional 2025 launch date, we will be reading this bit of identity politics boilerplate for years to come. Personally, I hope Jared Isaacman is able to arrange an all-SpaceX Moon landing mission that ninjas Artemis 3. It would be even better if he descends to the lunar surface with three women, none of whom are white. Jared’s Angels, we could call them.
The woke Left has long since gone “into the streets.” The institutional Left in the DOJ is the entity “disappearing” its enemies. There are dozens of people who did nothing wrong on Jan. 6, 2021 languishing in solitary confinement pending trials that somehow never seem to get docketed. This sort of banana republic stuff is now in the process of being tried against a former – and, in all probability, future – President. Fascism is indeed descending on the United States. And, just as in Europe a century ago, it’s descending from the left, not the right.
Your conflation of “the country” with government agencies tells any casual observer which side of this struggle you are on – the wrong one, as usual.
The actual fascism attempting to subjugate this country is based on phony identitarian grievance, arrogant self-regard, preening self-righteousness and the false conflation of credentials with education. It has already done quite a bit of burning. When effectively checked, it is quite likely to do still more, that being its nature. It is doing so under the black flag of “anarchy” as every version of the American flag – past and present – has now been officially declared a symbol of “domestic terrorism” by the Stasi – I mean the FBI.
