Dmitry Rogozin Proposes the Creation of an Eurasian Space Agency

MOSCOW (Roscosmos PR) — “I would like us to discuss the issue of creating the Eurasian Space Agency today,” suggested the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin.
His idea was supported by all forum participants.
The Business Forum of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) “Space Integration” is taking place in Moscow. It discusses issues of digitalization of the rocket and space industry in the EAEU space, the prospects for industrial cooperation, as well as the use of the results of space activities in the interests of the socio-economic development of the EAEU countries and the prospects for cooperation in the field of fundamental and applied space sciences.
Editor’s Note: EAEU is composed of the following nations:
- Armenia
- Belarus
- Kazakhstan
- Kyrgyzstan
- Russia
- Uzbekistan
- Moldova (observer)
- Cuba (observer).
All but one of the above countries are former Soviet republics. The former republics not on the list include:
- Azerbaijan
- Estonia
- Georgia
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Tajikistan
- Turkmenistan
- Ukraine.
Estonia joined the European Space Agency (ESA) as a full member in 2015. Latvia and Lithuania are associate members of ESA, which is a step toward becoming a full member. Ukraine signed a cooperation agreement with ESA in 2008.

Shocker. If I didn’t know better, I’d think this was an 80’s vintage Soviet press release. Then again, it might as well be.
lol glorious Soviet scratch Russian victory
Given the list of current members, and the ‘pending’ membership of Ukraine, along with the ‘prospect’ of eventual membership by the Baltic states, might as well just call this the Soviet Space Program. 🙂 Cuba somewhat complicates it, so maybe Interkosmos?
I fear Putin sees himself as a modern day Justinian. Determined to put the empire back together again, no matter the wishes of the nations being reabsorbed. We might see this policy played out further in Ukraine this week.
Yes. I agree that’s just what’s going on. The question is does he see himself putting the USSR back together, or the old Russian Empire? The answer to that question will come in the nature of the government (will Putin become Czar?) and the attitude/goals of what to do with/about the near-abroad. All that said, I don’t see the Russian people whipping up a patriotic fervor, nor do I see Ukraine preparing to fight for its life. All of this is, so far, only occurring at the level of the state and not the people. That’s a major complication for all sides.
Putin said a long time ago that he regards the dissolution of the USSR as “the greatest socio-political tragedy of the 20th century.” At the moment he’s a long way from reconstituting either the pre-Soviet Russian Empire or the USSR. He’s been reduced to poaching small targets of opportunity and taking whatever he can get. Thus far, that hasn’t amounted to much. Any serious grab for Ukraine, beyond the bits he’s already picked off, is likely to earn Russia only a bloody extremity for its trouble.
What would you expect from the grandson of Stalin’s cook, someone who dreamed of working for the KGB to protect the empire since he was a kid…
They look at Putin as their Reagan.
Yeltsin was a drunk like Mishin…and boy, howdy—do they hate Gorby for giving away the farm.
so many images so little time 🙂
Rogozin should give Putin some dioxin soup.
LOL
He’s worse than Justinian. Putin should change his last name to Proxmire. Rogozin knows his boss hates space and this is more of an attempt at finding other backers. Putin put his own bloody cosmonauts at risk, and might even sell Baikonur as a whole to the UAE and other Islamic states, so Rogozin reached out because Putin is his enemy. Israel may feel at risk should R-7 pads be sold.
Look…sanctions only hurt the poor. So…as much as it pains me to say this—I say remove all sanctions and let him have his bloody ice free port. East Ukraine has been more pro-Russian, looking at Western Ukrainians as sell outs to Germany. The Dneipr River might be a good boundary.
That or we see LEO turned into a trash pile.
It will be a Potemkin agency. 😀
