RENO, Nev. (Moon Mark PR) — Moon Mark, the entertainment and education company that will sponsor the first-ever race on the Moon in 2021, today announced it will partner with Golden, CO-based Lunar Outpost to secure the two racers that will make history.

Lunar Outpost will adapt its patented Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform (MAPP), created for extraterrestrial scientific missions, for racing mobility.

After eight-weeks of qualifying challenges by high-schoolers from around the world, six teams of five members will compete to become the final two that race on the Moon. Their adventures will be captured, produced and globally distributed by Moon Mark. The final two teams will complete the racer designs in Houston, Texas, before being loaded onto the lander that will transport them to the Moon.

“We could not be more pleased to partner with Lunar Outpost, the industry’s leader in aerospace mobility,” said Mary Hagy, Moon Mark’s Founder and CEO. “Their expertise in developing lunar rovers ensures that our racing teams will have the technical background to accomplish the mission and leave a scientific legacy after the checkered flag waves.”

“Moon Mark’s mission of getting young people involved in aerospace and working toward utilizing space for the betterment of humanity is something that resonates with us,” said Justin Cyrus, Co-Founder and CEO of Lunar Outpost. “We look forward to enabling racers on the Moon and being a part of the journey to bring space to the world.”

The two racers will deploy on the Moon via the Nova-C lander by Houston-based Intuitive Machines, following a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch in late 2021.

Cheap transportation opens up so many new doors.

they used a 1st stage 7 times.. they must be getting somethings right ,, basically they are launching their sats at the lowest rate ever achieved.

in a way it matters how you define cheap. the Boeing 377 was cheap…far cheaper and reliable then a DC3 or the flying boats…but it was not as cheap as a B777.

As I note in my latest op ed the business case for the Falcon launch series is about to close. its not clear to me what the next level of cost is. I suspect it will be “cheaper” …is it cheap enough to do …(insert goal here)

In economics there are two parts when you study it. Macro and Micro. Micro is doing marginal analysis. What happens to the algorism when you change one variable and by how much. What this means is on the margin every time to you lower the cost of one input variable it changes supply and demand. In the case of “cheap” or “cheaper” (less expensive) it raises the demand for that output. (supply) All you have to do is look at how much market share SpaceX has captured to understand this.

For me we are seeing all kinds of new possibilities being talked about. These conversations have been relegated to sci fi in the past because of the high cost of launch costs.

When you have major changes in these three areas: Energy, communications, transportation people start taking advantage of it. The first phase of that is the speculation phase. Capital starts investing in things that take advantage of that new cost, in this case the lower cost of transportation. What has been the main commercial use of space transportation? Communications. What are we seeing happening in communications? Starlnk and the rise of sats taking advantage of ride sharing.

As we space junkies get older, I know a lot of people want to see everything happen yesterday. But we are on the right track and capital is increasingly investing in the space sector. Even if Starship is unsuccessful I am confident the 1st stage of the super heavy will be and that alone will give cheap access to LEO.

happy thanksgiving. I am quite content with progress that has been making…the essence of the big shift underway to me…is that we are starting to see business cases close on private investment…and slowly we are leaning NASA and its money away from Apollo style acquisition and more as a customer for private enterprise development

if as I suspect it will Starlink is a success I expect to see a lot ofLEO constellations doing military type things…and that will secure the launch industry for a starship acquisition

what else? I dont see any massive revolutionary advances until and when 1) the US government decides on a massive space project (like solar power) and 2) something is discovered on the space station that requires people and makes money

              no idea what those are
