And folks wonder why some nations decline…
Folks seem to forget their were farmers once living where KSFC is today, and ranchers were WSMR is. Those folks didn’t get 3 times the appraisal value like the one in Boca Chica were offered.
They’re realistically going to have to move launches off-shore once they’ve got a decent flight rate going with Starship. It’s a good thing they have some practice with at least landing rockets on barges.
I’m willing to bet there will be more than a few idiotic orbital launch hot takes in that piece…just a hunch.
boohoo, your 100k house got bought for 300k, what a shitty world we live in.
I think this clown is hoping he will strike gold with this anti-free enterprise documentary like Michal Moore did with “Roger and Me”. Of course if he does he won’t share any of the money with the folks at Boca Chica. They only want the industrialists to share their wealth.
“Humanity can no longer sustain itself on this planet.” I’ve never heard Elon Musk make that argument. I have seen it erected as a strawman argument to knock down. Elon Musk has always taken a skeptical position about using space resources on Earth. Lots of people are enthusiastic about mining space resources, but he is not one of them. He doesn’t trash talk it. Those people are potential customers. But he doesn’t see an economic payback on the Moon. He doesn’t see a colony on the Moon.
Musk’s interest in cis-lunar space arose as soon as he saw the writing on the wall with regard to Artemis. If that’s where the government wants to spend its money then fine, that’s where he’ll harvest the government’s money, but he’d rather skip the Moon and go straight to Mars.
Musk realizes that he cannot do Mars by himself. He can do the transportation to and fro, but he needs help with the rest of it: nuclear power on Mars, life support on Mars, radiation safe habitats on Mars, food and water for two years on Mars, and on and on and on. It’s a tall order.
To accomplish his goals, he needs to bring the US government along. That means he has to be an insider. He has to stick with the congressional/administration/private industry zeitgeist. He has to serve his customers so that they continue to serve him.
Musk hasn’t ever said that. I presume that’s why someone who isn’t Musk is doing that initial narration in what I suppose they imagine to be an imitation Musk voice. Phony words in a phony accent.
Musk will be going straight to Mars. But he’ll also be going straight to the Moon – which he will be able to do far more often and somewhat more cheaply than he can go to Mars. There is money to made on the Moon and Musk’s various corporations are, in combination, very well-positioned to do so.
Anent both places Musk will, indeed, “bring the U.S. government along,” mainly as a customer. But the future of both places will depend far more upon Musk than Uncle Sam.
Yeah, the trailer makes it pretty clear what angle the “documentary” is going to take.
Now a knee-jerk “capitalism is bad, ‘mkay?” from the press is nothing new. What is interesting is the attack against Musk. Why Musk? Why now?
Musk used to be a hero to the usual suspects of green-weenies and silicon-valley-worshippers. Typically critics of Musk came from the Right, not from the Left. So why now flip against Musk?
It could be just the click-bait of the month. Musk is in the news, so “journalists” try to profit off the attention, like a blood sucking parasite.
But I think the Left has been souring on Musk for some time, and the controversy over the Tesla factory closure in Commiefornia was the last straw. In the eyes of the Left, Musk went from a visionary environmental hero, to a plutocratic covid-heretic villain. So now Musk must be destroyed.
The only thing worse than being an enemy of the Left, is being a friend of the Left, because the Left loves to eat their own.

Not very subtle, are they?
Interesting, almost as many downvotes as upvotes!
Vice hasn’t been doing too well lately. I don’t think this gratuitous hit piece is going to improve its fading fortunes.
