SSI: The Space Settlement Enterprise Conference

SEATTLE, Wash. (SSI PR) — This year marks the 50th anniversary of Professor Gerard O’Neill’s “High Frontier” concept of space settlement. The Space Studies Institute is about to embark on a multi-year effort to update the High Frontier vision in light of new technology, new knowledge of the solar system, and new commercial space capabilities. The Space Settlement Enterprise will kick off with stellar conference at the renowned Museum of Flight.

Who: The Space Studies Institute, and more than two dozen experts including Rob Meyerson, from president of Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin; Prof. George Sowers, space resources professor at the Colorado School of Mines; Dr. Jim Long, former chief flight surgeon for NASA astronauts; Dr. John Charles, recently retired chief scientist at NASA’s Human Research Program; and NASA astronaut Dr. Yvonne Cagle.

What: A two-day conference with leading experts discussing space settlement design, construction techniques, extraterrestrial resources, transportation and logistics, medicine and life support, and economic prospects.

When: Monday and Tuesday, September 9 and 10, 9 am to 5 pm.

Where: The Museum of Flight, 9404 E. Marginal Way South, Seattle, Washington. Main programming will take place in the William Allen Theater. Lunch programming will be upstairs in the Skyline Room.
