What was the impetus for Trump’s tweets? Did I miss something?

I’m OK with the idea of launching Donald Trump into space, but on the condition that he stay there.

I like that “crumble like a paper bag” line.

A paper bag made of cookies!

      Ah, he meant “crumple”!

I was trying to figure out what the heck you were getting at. Then I re-read the tweet and I was like, “Paper bags crumble?!”

      Funny.

Bezos is usually pretty under the radar…Until last week tweetin’ it up with billionaire Sir Muskalot, & now the billionaire Hairpiece.
I suppose if I was a billionaire I’d have a big ol’ ego too. 🙂

I still don’t understand why somebody even supports him.

American political discourse has descended deeper and deeper into state of child like emotion based argument. It started with Reagan. Carter to Roosevelt (FDR) either were, or attempted put forward a front of intellectual airs and reason behind their policies. Regan was a emotive leader, he led from the heart. The three major schools of emotive American politics are Regan, Clinton, and W Bush. Trump is simply the next school of emotive American politics. Regan was California, Clinton was Dixie, W Bush was Texas, and Trump is East Coast (New Jersey really) thug. Americans have been led by the media and the political class to think at more and more child like levels, and are looking for their elected officials to reflect their naive worldview. America is striking out blindly at the world and as things get worse, we want to strike out yet more, and just as blindly, to make it all stop.

Ha! Not in depth, but I know what you are talking about at least the rough outer shell of the era. He was a character. But that said, national leaders up to WWII were very much in the Trump style and character. He’s not a freak, but rather where politics go when you no longer have living memory of what it means to have 20th cen military forces set loose against each other. When political institutions no longer need intelligent people to ensure survival the political hacks get to leave the dummy corner and take over. Look at the republicans, two inexperienced punks, an aristocrat, a doctor out of his depth, an aristocrat wanna be, a CEO who sold her company down the river, and two thugs from the New York/New Jersey area, call them the Port Authority ruffs. Then on the democratic side you have the failed ex Sec of State, and the Sen who wants to take the country to a place it might be in 50 years from now, but shows no way to articulate how to get there. All of them are cartoons. Trump is just the worst of them.

Basically, both sides are ignoring the majority of Americans who see the world descending into crap and they

        (this is the important part)

Feel Powerless to do anything. Often all that needs to be done to avoid terrible shit is for people to listen to the questions and fears of people and try to either do something about it or allay those fears.

Mostly people just ignore them and move on.

And Andrew the reality is most politics period no matter where you are is often at the level of child like emotions. people don’t do well in large groups when decisions need to be made. Its why the US was founded as a democratic republic. Straight democracy is the fastest way to a tyranny ever made. Son’t believe me read up on ancient Greece. Especially Athens.

I’m not a Trump fan, quite the opposite – but maybe Trump has a valid point about Bezos, Amazon, and taxes.

Not really, but I’m sure many people will believe it, especially those who are under the belief that many of America’s problems stem from the evil corporations not paying enough taxes.

If you lose money in business and don’t have to pay taxes on that money, you’ve still lost the money. Your business isn’t benefitting from not having lost it.

Moreover, Amazon’s taxes are not affected by profit or loss at The Washintgon Post because Amazon does not own The Washington Post. Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post through an investment company, and he also owns 19% of Amazon – but they are separate companies.

What is really wrong with all of this , are all the breaks given to various companies and ppl. Far better to remove all breaks and then put on simple loe progressive tax, along with tax on dividends equal to the same as wages.

The taxes are the sales taxes online businesses like Amazon avoided until recently. It gave them an early advantage against on ground retail outlets, the kind Donald Trump often has in his buildings, who do pay local sales taxes.

I can’t see how that fits at all with what Trump was saying. How would a business loss at one company impact sales tax at another? Income and profit taxes are completely separate from sales taxes. Profit or loss has absolutely no impact on sales tax, you can’t take tax deductions from sales tax payments.

You mean the capsule that could be seen in the video landing under parachutes in the desert?

Trump is showing his democrat roots by complaining that an innovative company isn’t paying enough taxes. He then doubles down when he said this is “stealing” from the rest of us. He’s two degrees of separation from, “You didn’t build that” at this point.

Bezos appears to be in competition with Musk for the Dr Evil Award. While Elon had a Twitter avatar showing him holding a fluffy cat with his finger in the corner of his mouth, Bezos opts for the shaved head and unnecessarily phallic spacecraft.

The hardware that separates the capsule from the rest of the rocket on the Bezos rocket is called the Ballistic Retro Interstage Separation System, or BRISS. Or maybe that’s for deploying lateral payloads. Not sure. (Yes, I’m kidding. Don’t update Wikipedia.)
