MOSCOW (Roscosmos PR) — The autonomous training for surviving in a case of emergence landing in marshy-wooded area in the winter will take place since Jan 19 till Feb 9.

Crewmates of ISS crew 48/49: Anatoly Ivanishin (Roscosmos), Takuya Onishi (JAXA), Kathleen Rubins (NASA) and ISS crew 49/50: Sergey Ryzhikov & Andrey Borisenko( Roscosmos), Robert Kimbrough (NASA) and spaceflight participants Sarah Brightman and Satoshi Takamatsu take part in this training.

During this week they will get a theoretical course as well as practical training by working of skills, which is needed to survive in a case of emergency landing, Moreover, the lecturers will tell them about using man-portable emergency supply (MES) and how to provide first aid.

All crew members have trained their skills in landing descent vehicle, taking away spacesuits, making bonfire, building shelter, cooking meals and collaboration with rescue services.

This course is prepared by Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center specialists, who are controlling the educational process by themselves. They are assisted by instructors, practitioner of medicine and psychologists.

    I wish that American space systems did the same. You never know when it will be needed.
