SEATTLE, Washington (Space Angels PR) – The Space Frontier Foundation announced on October 25th that Generation Orbit Launch Services Inc. was awarded the $100,000 first-place prize of the 2013 NewSpace Business Plan Competition held at Stanford University. As a Sponsor of the competition, Space Angels Network members contributed to the screening, coaching and judging of the business plans. As the winner of the competition, Generation Orbit will now have the opportunity to present to the members of Space Angels Network in December to build on the company’s success and potentially attract new investors.

Joe Landon,Space Angels Network Managing Director, congratulated Generation Orbit and commented on their success in the competition. “Generation Orbit did an outstanding job at communicating the value of their business model and the attractiveness of the market for small launch services. I expect that Generation Orbit will be well received by our members and wish them the best of luck as they continue to build this exciting business.”

Generation Orbit’s business plan focuses on providing dedicated rides to orbit for micro and nano satellite developers. John R. Olds, Generation Orbit CEO, stated: “We see a growing demand for dedicated launch services for the small satellite community. There is strong interest in GO from both the commercial and government sectors, and we’ve already sold our first orbital flight to NASA for launching three 3U CubeSats. Our GOLauncher system will remove many of the schedule delays and flexibility constraints currently imposed by the secondary or hitchhiker-type ridesharing solutions presently available to small satellite developers, and that’s critical for many of our customers.”

Generation Orbit’s GOLauncher 2 (“GO2”) is an air launched two-‐stage rocket system capable of delivering payloads up to 100 lb into Low Earth Orbit.  GO offers a unique service to payloads in this mass class by providing a range of dedicated launch opportunities to customer defined orbits. This flexibility offers an unprecedented advantage to micro and nano satellites seeking responsive access to space. The first GO2 launch is scheduled for late 2016 from Cecil Field Spaceport in Jacksonville, FL.
