Commerce secretary meets with laid off shuttle workers

With a plan due out to help displaced shuttle workers in the works, the U.S. Commerce Secretary paid a visit to the Kennedy Space Center.

[Gary] Locke met with about a dozen employees Wednesday morning — all contract workers given notice they would be without jobs very soon.

He also toured a KSC facility, which leaders say serves as a model for new businesses looking for highly skilled employees who want to stay on the Space Coast.

Locke said the plan to diversify the KSC workforce and lure companies to hire them is in high gear. He said there is incredible interest from businesses to relocate to the area.
