Industry Leaders Meet to Plan Post-Shuttle Job Effort

More than 200 space industry leaders met in Brevard County Friday as the push continues to save shuttle worker jobs.
“We’re ready for it, now it’s coming on and we’re going to address it,†said Lynda Weatherman from the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast.
A panel comprised of Brevard’s superintendent of schools and county manager, and the heads of Space Florida and United Space Alliance, the lead space shuttle contractor, fielded questions and shared their thoughts on how to offset as many job losses as possible.
“Just because the shuttle is going away, it’s very important to us,†Weatherman said. “But it doesn’t mean economic development is going away. There are lots of other opportunities.â€
