Oklahoma House Approves Spaceport Bill

Spaceport bill passes Oklahoma House day after failing

House members reversed themselves Thursday less than 24 hours after voting down an appropriations bill for the agency that funds the Oklahoma Spaceport near Burns Flat….

No numbers are in the bill; figures will be put in the measure later when a budget deal is struck. The bills have to be voted on now to meet deadlines so a budget can be finalized by the time the session ends in late May, Miller said.

If members want to eliminate the agency and the spaceport, which has had its share of critics over the years, they should file a bill calling for it to be dissolved, Miller said. The Space Industry Development Authority received about $500,000 last year.

Wednesday’s vote to defeat the bill was brought about by House members who don’t like the budget process and want to be involved in high-level, secret budget talks.
