ROSKOSMOS PRESS OFFICE
Yesterday, on July 2, a ceremonial reception took place in the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Moscow.
Sergey Saveliev, Deputy Head of Roscosmos, attended the reception. On behalf of Roscosmos Administration, he handed over Roscosmos Administration Award “International Space Cooperation” to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People`s Republic of China in the Russian Federation Mr. Lu Guchan.
Sergey Saveliev said:
“Dear Mr. Ambassador!
On behalf of Roscosmos Administration, and personally, I would like to express gratitude for the support you provided regarding evolution of the Russian-Chinese cooperation in space. Peaceful space exploration and studies become more and more important for both countries from political, economical, scientific and engineering points of view.
Russian relationship with China is subject to Chinese position of a country which has achieved significant success in space exploration and became a leading space power. Thus, the cooperation of our countries acquires new quality –joint fulfillment of grand scientific and application projects. The first real step on this way is Phobos-Grunt project accomplished by both parties. Feasibility of other future projects is being studied by both sides.
It is worth mentioning that during your time in office as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People`s Republic of China in the Russian Federation, bilateral cooperation on space programs was promoted:
Agreement between Russian Federal Space Agency and Chinese National Space Administration on joint exploration of Mars and Phobos was signed on March 26, 207, in Kremlin; 2007-2009 Russian-Chinese cooperation program has been accepted (now the objectives of the program are being accomplished); 2010-2012 Cooperation Program has been established;
Five meetings of the Space Cooperation Subcommittee under Russian-Chinese Board which deals with preparing regular meetings of the Chairmen of the Governments;
Representative offices were opened in Beijing (early 2008) and in Moscow (early 2009);
Official visit of the first Chinese cosmonaut Yang Liwei to Moscow was organized in August 2005;
Working visit of Chinese delegation with cosmonaut Liu Boming to Moscow was organized in June 2009.
It is necessary to add that during the negotiations between the President of the Russian Federation D.A. Medvedev and the Chaiman of the People`s Republic of China Hu Jintao, which took place in Moscow on June 17, 2009, successful evolution of the Russian-Chinese space cooperation was noted.
We appreciate your great contribution into progress of Russian-Chinese cooperation in space, and Russian Federal Space Agency would like to hand-over Roscosmos Administration Award “International Space Cooperation” to you, Mr. Ambassador.â€
