Space Florida’s interim CEO draws praise

Space Florida’s board of directors on Monday selected Brevard County space consultant Frank DiBello to be acting president of the state’s troubled aerospace development body for the next 90 days while they organize a search for a permanent president.

DiBello, 67, replaces Steve Kohler, an economic development expert from Pennsylvania, who stepped down earlier this month following criticism from aerospace industry that he wasn’t doing enough to prepare for the thousands of job losses Florida faces when NASA retires the space shuttle next year.

DiBello was president of one of its predecessor agencies, the Florida Aerospace Finance Corporation. He is widely respected and well-connected in the space community both in Florida and Washington.

“Frank is an outstanding individual with a deep and expansive understanding of space issues through his lifelong work in the industry,” Associated Industries of Florida President Barney Bishop said in a statement.
