Second WhiteKnightTwo Flight Delayed by Unrelated Crash

Rob Coppinger of Hyperbola blog reports that the second flight of Virgin Galactic’s WhiteKnightTwo was delayed yesterday when a DC-3 ran off the runway at the Mojave Air & Space Port. Media reports indicate that the two pilots were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

“WhiteKnightTwo (WK2) had been taxied out and its chase plane was to be a Beech Starship while the emergency vehicles were also being readied, and fortunately then were out and ready for the DC-3 crash when it happened. After the crash occurred WK2 taxied back to the hangar,” Coppinger reports.

The carrier vehicle’s maiden flight occurred on December 21. The second flight had been expected last month, but it has been delayed amid a report that the vehicle needs changes to its rudder. Virgin Galactic has denied the report.
