[Peter] Martinez says South Africa’s space strategy envisages our country playing a role. However, while space exploration is “the grandest human venture ever”, he says it is too cost-prohibitive to be undertaken by a single country, and South Africa’s eventual aim is to join the 17 other nations signed up to the Global Space Exploration Strategy.

“Can you imagine the inspirational power of South Africa being part of a rover team on another planet?” enthuses Martinez.
