NASA Selects Small Spacecraft Technologies for Funding

New high-impulse thrusters and communications technologies that will facilitate missions by groups of spacecraft beyond Earth orbit are among the small satellite technologies that NASA is funding under its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.

The space agency selected six research and development projects for SBIR Phase II funding. The awards are for up to $750,000 over two years.

Three of the proposals focus on small satellite thrusters. Alameda Applied Sciences Corporation (AASC) of Oakland, California will continue to develop its high-impulse metal plasma thrusters for use on CubeSat missions.

Blink Astro Announces Successful Launch of Its First Hosted Custom Radio Payload

ATLANTA, April 2, 2019 (Blink Astro PR) — Blink Astro® (Blink®) is pleased to announce the successful launch of our custom radio payload hosted on the NanoAvionics’ M6P 6U spacecraft using the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) PSLV-C45 launch vehicle. The launch took place at 11:57 pm EDT on March 31, 2019 from India’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre. Preliminary communications have been established with the M6P host spacecraft.

“The culmination of three years of diligent engineering design work from a very talented team has led us to this great milestone, and we are very excited to perform live field tests with our satellite IoT solution,” said Darshan Shah, Blink’s Program Manager.

SpaceWorks Receives DARPA SBIR Phase I Contract

SpaceWorks Launches Blink Astro LLC, New Satellite Subsidiary

spaceworks_logoATLANTA, GA, November 30, 2015 (SpaceWorks PR) — SpaceWorks Enterprises, Inc. announced today that it has formed a new subsidiary organization to develop and manufacture small satellites and to pursue satellite-based global machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity. Blink Astro, LLC (Blink) was founded earlier this month as a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlanta-based SpaceWorks. Blink will become the small satellite unit within the overall SpaceWorks group of companies and follows from an internal SpaceWorks project of the same name.
