On 20 July, ESA will sign a contract with Thales Alenia Space Italy for the development of the European Experimental Reentry Testbed (Expert).
Set for launch in 2010, Expert will provide aerothermodynamic tool validation on the basis of actual flight data for a number of physical phenomena encountered by space transportation vehicles during their reentry phase in Earthâ€™s atmosphere. It will also improve European competence in atmospheric reentry and associated technologies.
Thales Alenia Space announced today the signing of a contract with Orbital Sciences Corporation (NYSE: ORB) for the design, development, production and delivery of nine pressurized modules for cargo transport â€“ to include equipment, spare parts, scientific experiments and other items â€“ to the International Space Station (ISS). The contract foresees the first unit delivery in December 2010 and the last unit delivery in the middle of 2015.
The European Space Agency (ESA) and Thales Alenia Space have set the agreement for the authorization to proceed with the development of the atmospheric reentry demonstrator IXV (Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle).
