MOSCOW (Roscosmos PR) — In the Scientific and Production Association named after S.A. Lavochkin (part of the State Corporation Roscosmos), work continues on preparations for the launch of the automated lander Luna-25, which is scheduled for the fall of this year. The modern lunar apparatus will be a continuation of the Soviet landers of the same name.
On April 16, 2021, a mock-up (overall assembly) of the Luna-25 spacecraft was delivered to the Vostochny cosmodrome, intended for complex tests of technical means and systems at the cosmodrome. The work is scheduled for this summer. During the tests, the technology of work with the product at the cosmodrome will be tested to ensure the subsequent launch of the flight product.
The flight product of Luna-25 is currently in the finishing chamber of the control and measuring station of NPO Lavochkin and is undergoing the stage of electrical and radio technical tests necessary to confirm the station’s operability at all stages of the mission. The production and testing of the Luna-25 flight apparatus is planned to be completed in the summer of 2021, after which the apparatus will be sent to the cosmodrome to prepare for launch.
Dmitry Klimov, acting Director of the Vostochny Space Center (a branch of the Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation): “The overall assembly model is designed to work out the interaction of technological equipment with the Luna-25 model of space equipment. unloading, docking with our technological equipment, installation at the workplace – and we will also check the compliance with the operational documentation. “
The implementation of the Luna-25 space expedition is an important step in the exploration of outer space, it will allow to rise to a qualitatively new level in lunar exploration and from a different angle to look at the prospects for the development of the planets of the solar system, to understand the mechanisms of the origin of planets, the appearance of water and, consequently, life on the ground.
Luna-25 is completely created using the Russian element base and the latest achievements in the field of space instrumentation. The main task of the mission is to test the basic technologies for soft landing in the circumpolar region and to conduct contact studies of the soil in the region of the South Pole of the Moon.
