Look out, terrestrial cellular services.
Bloomberg reports that Apple is in the early stages of developing technology that could beam Internet services directly to iPhone or other mobile devices.
The report is short on details. It’s not clear whether Apple will build its own satellites or is merely developing technologies that could be used on and/or in conjunction with broadband constellations launched by other companies.
It is also not clear whether the satellite transmissions will go directly to devices, or whether Apple would set up its own terrestrial network independent of existing cellular ones.
The research and development work is in the early stages and could be scrapped, Bloomberg reported.
