Virgin Orbit Completes Last Hot Fire of NewtonThree Engine

I’m always up for a good hot-fire test video and this one didn’t disappoint.

ULA has two launches scheduled for Jan. 2019 – one from each coast – as does SpaceX. If all fly as currently scheduled and LauncherOne makes its debut as well, that will be five U.S. orbital missions in a month. If NGIS can somehow manage to get the perennially delayed Pegasus-ICON mission up as well, that would be six for the month. It’s not likely the U.S. can sustain a 5 or 6 mission-a-month rate for the entire year of 2019, but it would certainly get the new year off to a resounding start and augur well for blowing right by 2018’s total.
