I checked with Karina Drees, sCEO of the Mojave Air and Space Port, about the $1.05 million grant from the Department of Transportation for the extension of Taxiway B.
The grant would cover half of the $2 million cost of the extension, Drees said. The spaceport is waiting to see if there is a follow-on award that cover the full cost. It’s not clear if the airport would go forward with the extension if the funding doesn’t come through, she added.
“The intent of the project is to complete the Taxiway B, which is only half finished,” Drees wrote in an email. “At this time, we do not have any commitments for development.”
A spokeswoman for Virgin Galactic, whose FAITH facility is located on Taxiway B, said the company had no comment on possible expansion plans.
