SPACEPORT AMERICA, NM, April 4, 2016 (Spaceport America PR) –  Crew members from Spaceport America and Virgin Galactic opened the doors to the world’s first purpose-built spaceport on Saturday to welcome more than 1,700 guests from across the country.  Some flew in, others drove in, and others around the world were able to tune in via the Spaceport America Periscope broadcast that was also trending.  Eighty-six crew members from the New Mexico Civil Air Patrol were on hand to support the activities happening on the ground.

In addition to the crowds surrounding Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo Replica, guests enjoyed learning about the latest developments in commercial space at the Space Cinema.  ARCA Space CEO, Dumitru Popescu was also on hand for Q&A with the crowd.  Dr. Bill’s interactive Rocket Science Workshops were a big hit among young and old alike. And guests had the opportunity to be inside the amazing terminal hangar which will soon be filled with WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo.

Outside guests enjoyed a selection of delicious coffees from Milagros Coffee y Espresso truck, tasty treats from Paradise Shaved Ice, and space themed concoctions from the Milky Way Café food truck.  The Space Art painting activity was a favorite among our younger guests.  The fire-fighting demonstrations put on by Spaceport America’s Fire Fighting team were popular across all the generations. Getting to explore all the different types of aircraft out on Spaceport America’s 15 acre apron and interacting with the 36 pilots who flew in was also popular.

The weather was spectacular, making for an all round wonderful day!  Spaceport America’s next open house will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Registration is open
