Obama Likely to Nominate Ex-Gov. Gary Locke for Commerce Secretary

If at first (two times) you don’t succeed, try try again. MSNBC reports:

A senior administration official says President Barack Obama’s likely pick to head up the Commerce Department is former Washington Gov. Gary Locke.

The nomination follows the withdrawal of New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (grand jury investigation) and Judd Gregg (irroncilable differences on economic strategy). It is not clear what Locke’s views are on commercial space at this time. The Commerce Department has a commerce space office.

Locke was the first Chinese-American to serve as a state governor, holding Washington State’s top office from 1997-2005. After leaving office, he joined the Seattle office of international law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine, working in their China and governmental-relations practice groups. During the campaign last year, he was co-chairman of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign in Washington.
